How to make a blowout last four days
A good blowout should not be a one-night thing. Done properly, and maintained with a little intention, it will carry you from a Tuesday appointment straight through the weekend. This is the day-by-day protocol our stylists actually give clients at the chair.
Day one: leave it alone
The hardest instruction in the business. No elastics, no claw clips, no constant tucking behind the ears. Freshly styled hair needs time for the cuticle to cool and set completely, and everything you do to it in the first few hours gets remembered for days.
That night, sleep on it loosely. A silk or satin pillowcase earns its keep here — less friction means less frizz by morning. If you need your hair up, a very loose topknot secured with a scrunchie will hold the shape without pressing a crease into it.
Day two: dry shampoo before you need it
Dry shampoo is a prevention product, not a rescue product. Mist it lightly at the roots before bed on night two, while your scalp is still relatively fresh. It absorbs oil as it arrives overnight, instead of trying to disguise it after the fact. By day three you will understand why we insist on this.
Day three: change the map
Flip your part to the other side. It instantly lifts the roots that have started to settle, and it puts sections of hair that have been lying flat on display at their best angle. A small amount of texture cream worked through the mid-lengths — we use Sachajuan’s Ocean Mist Texturizing Hair Cream on the floor — brings back grip and body without weighing anything down.
Day four: work with what’s left
By now the blowout has relaxed into something softer, and that is not a failure — it is the best day for styles that want lived-in texture. A low chignon, a soft braid, or a quick pass with a wave wand over the ends all look better on day-four hair than they ever do on day one.
The honest part
A blowout only lasts as long as the hair underneath is healthy. Split, dehydrated ends give up a style in hours no matter what you spray on them. Keep up your trims, keep a repair treatment in the shower rotation, and the same blowout will simply last longer — that is the whole trick.
